The last time I updated this blog was August 22nd 2018. I wrote;
““ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!’’
Pace, passing, possession, aggression, composure- I truly was being entertained by a Walsall team. That has not happened for a long time. Just like Maximus in that scene, I felt like Walsall FC almost had a disdain for the opposition, and a point to prove to our own. Like the gladiator, we were speedy and aggressive, with seemingly 0 care in the world for the well being of our opponents. Our tackles were strong but fair, and the bastardry of Cook and Ferrier that has already progressed to meme status has filtered through the entire squad. When Morris netted that superb strike, I could feel the hysteria washing over me.”
It’s now February 12th 2019. Kieron Morris is gone. The bastardry is gone. Aggression and intent has gone, and the last shred of entertainment has gone, oh and we’ve just lost 1-0 to bottom of the league Wimbledon.
It feels a lot like last season. Fans fight amongst themselves. Team selection and substitutions are baffling. Players looks clueless and the threat of relegation, if anything is more dangerous than it has felt in a long time.
Who’s is worse than us in this league? Until tonight I would have said Wimbledon amongst a few others …
I still haven’t made my mind up on what should come next. Who can take the reigns even if Keates goes? Who would even want this job? How have the players gone from one extreme to the other in the space of 5 months?
More questions than answers, as always. More anger then enjoyment, as always. More disappointment than success, as always.
The only positive from tonight was Liam kinsella once again showing his quality and earning the fans appreciation with a MOTM display. This will probably lead to a spot on the bench for him on Saturday…Local derby up next, I wonder how bakayoko will celebrate his Hat trick goal.
Wins so crucial heading into the final quarter of the campaign, if Keates has any chance of getting the fans off his back, a display similar to those of August 2018 a must. See you all there.
