The Tale of Two Signings

What a day…

Two players that had potential to be in Walsall’s future have found themselves elsewhere. Jason McCarthy our loanee player of the season has decided to leave Southampton to join Barnsley (for the mere price of £200k -rumoured). Jason played every minute for us in the league last season and bagged an impressive 5 goals from RWB. Whilst Jason was never realistically going to stay with the Saddlers with the lad clearly being too good for League 1 it is sad to see him go- it is no surprise at all that he made the step up to the Championship ,I have no doubt Barnsley will get the best out of him and it would not surprise me at all if he were in the Premier League in a few years (though possibly not with Barnsley).

Meanwhile our transfer record breaker Makris has engineered a move to APOEL. The £300k+ per goal front man will not be missed by me personally. Whilst we enjoyed cheering him, willing him well and celebrating his solitary goal, theres no doubt that this was terrible business. He looked out of his depth and never showed any really prospect, but with his transfer fee being undisclosed it is interesting to speculate what the actual fuck is going on with our club.

No signings and another departure, whilst I would not blame Whitney for McCarthy deciding not to return I feel there is an almost insurmountable amount of pressure building on either Whitney or the club to inform the fans about what’s going on and make some moves- hopefully it ends with some positive transfers and not another rash purchase of an unproven player.

The atmosphere of the fans online is positively toxic and unfortunately there is no new kit launch this week for the club to hide behind. THERE IS STILL TIME…but when I look at our currently playing staff and the failure to give the fans the slightest inclination of what our season plan is, the whole things stinks of rank mismanagement.

One positive that may come from this is that we may now have freed up some space in the wage budget to get in some players who actually want to wear the Walsall shirt *cough* Laird *cough*, that’s about the only thing that I could see raising the spirits of the fans now- my concern would be that despite the godly talents and likability of the man, he may not be able to stave off relegation for us single handedly.

We need at least 5 new signings in my opinion and we need them fast…COYR
