Leaving it Late

The reds left it late but finally we taste victory again. Though we scored in the 85th minute we could have easily been ahead after just 25 seconds. A cross from the left hand side evaded everyone and fell kindly to McCarthy at the back stick who’s driven shot rebounded off the far post only to see Osbourne’s follow up struck straight down the keepers throat.

With that early chance I felt maybe it was the day we finally came out all guns blazing…in reality it was the only exciting attack we had all of the first half. Swindon fans brought a banner with them reminding their players to ”FIGHT FOR THE SHIRT”, maybe we need to borrow it…

A very dismal first half in terms of attacking saw the lads seem very contempt to go backwards and sideways constantly. No one apart form Morris in the midfield seemed to actually want to drive forward, the youngster being my Man of the Match for a second game running. Morris has hit a bit of form recently and hopefully that is a sign of things to come next season. The only other stand out for me in the first half was a very fine save from MacGillivray down to his left to keep the scores at 0-0- though he was not helped by our midfield and defenders who made their lanky number 7 look like league one Lionel Messi in the build up.

In the second half I felt the boys improved. We came forward with a little more purpose and Morris again brought the attack to them, but in all honesty it looked to be heading for a 0-0 (thanks again to a fine MacGillivray save) until Oztumer was brought on off the bench. Myself and the rest of the stadium seemed to be calling for his arrival 5/10 minutes prior to when he actually did but it did the trick non-the-less.

The Turkish Messi involved in our goal spreading it out wide for Edwards who took it wide of his man to fire into the far corner – their goalkeeper maybe should have done a little better but who’s complaining? Oztumer could have put the cherry on the cake in the dying seconds of the game, slipped in by Baka and rounding the keeper, only to be thwarted by a very good last ditch challenge from their centre back – maybe he should have shot sooner like when he tried to cut onto his right earlier in the game. The sooner he is ready to start games again the better!

Another person I want to mention is Dobson. With Osbourne looking like he had run out of steam and maybe even picked up a knock, Dobson made another appearance off the bench. Until the turn of the year I wasn’t overly impressed by him, but every time he has played recently I think he adds something to the game. He looks more dynamic than I first thought and he always looks to pass and then move forward, something I think our midfield lacks when Oztumer is out. I would like to see him maybe start one of the games before the season is out but if Osbourne keeps performing he may struggle to break into the first 11.

Overall the boys didn’t blow me away with their performance but you can only beat what is put in front of you- Well done lads!

3 points is 3 points and hopefully we can take some momentum into our game against Coventry on Saturday. COYR.
