Another home win for Bradford, hardly unexpected. We could have played our best football of the season at Valley Parade Saturday and still come away with a loss. Bradford have truly turned their home ground into a fortress and have not lost a league home game all season, so coming away empty handed probably hasn’t ruined too many accumulators this weekend.
I’ll not moan about the result, but I will moan about the performance, particularly in the second half. Truth be told the first 45 minutes weren’t that bad in my opinion. Makris nearly opened his account with a speculative volley from 25 yards that just sailed past the post and then had a shot tipped just wide after being played in by Kieran Morris.
Bradford had the majority of the play throughout the game though and a clearance off the line by O’Connnor made sure we went into the break honours even.
It was when the deadlock was broken that the performance became very frustrating. What is now driving the players? I don’t know the answer to that myself but there was absolutely no fight shown to get back into the game after we had gone behind. It almost felt like the players wanted the points if and only if we managed to sneak ahead, otherwise what’s the point. Play-offs out of reach, relegation very unlikely, we’ll take a 1-0 loss unless we happen to equalise from a set piece late on…
We really missed Oztuner in the middle of the park, someone who could really take the game to them- A few times we drove through the middle only to see a misplaced pass or off-target shot kill off any slight momentum we had mustered.
The only positives for me being the younger lads appearing on the bench and also a debut appearance for Mitch Candlin. He didn’t see too much of the ball but when he did he made the right choices and didn’t look afraid to get amongst the play.
Not sure who I would give man of the match to in all honesty, possibly Joe Edwards, but I wouldn’t have rated any of the lads higher than 6/10.
The players needs to dig deep and find something to drive their performances to the end of the season. Lots of teams to play who are fighting for their league 1 lives. If we can’t match their desire we’ll be looking at a few more defeats than necessary before the season is out…COYR
