There’s lots of things to be annoyed about in that game, but the result is not one of them.
When you don’t test the opposition keeper at all in 90 minutes, how on earth are you expected to come away with a point, let alone 3.
Fleetwood were everything Walsall needed to be in this game. First to the first ball, first to the second ball and first to just about everything else. Their number 12 won literally everything within 10 yards of him, why we persisted to send aerial balls anywhere near him I do not know. They had a certain resilience across all 11 men and in reality I think they were just the better team man for man.
There was an air of frustration around the pitch tonight. Every ball seemed to land at a Fleetwood players feet and nothing would quite go right for the men in red.
In hindsight with such a dominant serial presence in their central defence maybe Baka should have started ahead of Jackson, but even when he came on he did little creatively and was a second best to the dominant number 12.
A few decent performances around the park; Chambers or Edwards being my choice for man of the match. Neil was frustrating slow and wayward with his distribution as always , but a fine save from close range in the first half kept us in the game.
I’ve toyed around the possibility of making 6th place over the last few weeks, but for me that’s all she wrote.
I’ll save my final season breakdown till all 46 games have been played, but I feel tonight is the result that will ensure league 1 football again next season…something we are becoming boringly familiar with.
